Honoring Gary Gentry

In 2019, the Lorraine Gentry family (including her son Brian and daughter Michelle and their families), started the 1st Annual Hornet Gentry Memorial Golf Tournament to honor and recognize the loss of their beloved husband and father Gary Gentry. Gary was a huge supporter of Valley Falls athletics and the Valley Falls Athletic Association had a special place in his and Lorraine's lives as they and their kids participated in Valley Falls athletics over the years. Lorraine and her family worked tirelessly to get the golf tournament up and going in 2019 and every year since its inception it has been a sell-out of 36 teams each year. A clear sign of how much Gary meant to the community.

The Valley Falls Athletic Association has been the benefactor of each of these golf tournaments and the financial benefit to the ball association could not be more clear. The Athletic Association has made many improvements at Rush and Davis Fields that simply would not have been possible without the Gentry family. Many of those improvements include: new infield surface, new concrete seating areas on Rush Field, new shade canopies, new backstop and netting on Davis Field, and many, many other much needed improvements. Today, Rush and Davis Fields are some of the best ball complexes in the area thanks to the Gentry Family and their generosity of giving back to the community and the Valley Falls youth.
